Laconia, NH------Dennis A. Daly of 218 Lynnewood Road and formerly of Springfield, MA, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on his 75th birthday, October 18, 2003.
Mr. Daly was born October 18, 1928 in Springfield, MA, the son of Dennis and Helen (O'Connell) Daly.
Dennis served in the Coast Guard and retired from the Springfield, MA Police Department in 1967. In 1971, he moved his family to Weirs Beach, NH to become owner of Lakeview Hotel, Motel, and Cabins. Over the years, he was also employed at Forest Park Ambulance, Piper Motors, Fitzgerald Dodge and McGreevy Buick.
Dennis spent many happy and active years as a devoted member of the Lakes Region Chordsmen. He loved barbershop singing. He also participated in several plays such as "the Music Man" and "Fiddler on the Roof" at Gilford High School. He dedicated many hours to the Chordsmen, singing and creating scenery and signs for yearly productions. He was also a talented artist. He created many drawings and cartoons for family and friends.
Dennis was a life member of the Elks #876, the American Legion Post 1, the Mass Retirees, Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Assoc, the Massachusetts Retired Police and Firefighters Association and the Springfield Police Relief Assoc.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean (Arnold) Daly; two sons, "Mike" Daly and his wife, Patricia, and Kevin Daly all of Laconia; a daughter, Julia Ann (Daly) Lawrence and her husband, Robert Lawrence, of Moultonboro; three step-grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; sisters, Rita (Daly) Metayer of Springfield, MA and Mary (Daly) Morris and her husband, George, of Harwich, MA: and a brother, Joseph Daly and his wife, Jeannette of Longmeadow, MA and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2003 from 5:30-8:30 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH on Friday October 24, 2003 at 11:00AM.
