Laconia, NH-----Margaret Freeland Carter Bean, 94, of 30 County Drive, died at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 28, 2006.
Mrs. Bean was born August 7, 1911 in Gorham, NH, the daughter of Inez J. (Harriman) and Harry Freeland Carter.
Mrs. Bean was raised in Bethel, Maine. She graduated from the Gould Academy and attended the Conservatory School of Music in Portland, Maine. She lived at Christian Ridge in Wolfeboro for twenty-two years where she was a very active leader in the community functions. She moved to Laconia five years ago.
Mrs. Bean and her late husband owned and operated the Carlton Brook Restaurant, Randolph, NH from 1952-1954.
She was an organist and opera singer and retired from her concert career to raise her family. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Wolfeboro where she was the Choir Director, Soloist and Organist until 1990.
Mrs. Bean loved her family, knitting, baking, the Boston Celtics and cooking. She was a member of the Laconia Emblem Club #80.
Survivors include a son, Carter Lary Bean, of Newport Center, Vermont; two daughters, Jewel L. (Bean) Warneck of Wappingers Falls, NY and Ginevra “Fifi” L. (Bean) Salway, of Laconia; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and three nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Nichols Bean, in 1963; by a son, Caleb L. Bean, in 1989; by a daughter, Tirzah L. (Bean) Cooney, in 1981 and by her two sisters, Helen Carter Champlain and Eleanor Carter.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 1:00-3:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
There will be no Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246 or to the Belknap County Nursing Home Activities Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.
