Gilford---Mrs. Barbara (Mattson) Yale, 80, of Gilford, NH and formerly of Marblehead, MA, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Gordon A. Yale who died in 1980.
Born in Lynn, MA, Barbara was the daughter of the late Walter and Gladys Mattson. She graduated from Marblehead High School and was employed for several years at General Electric.
Barbara raised four sons, Wayne Allen Yale, who passed away in 1991, Glenn Alden Yale, Scott Mattson Yale, and Kent Elliot Yale, who passed away in 1974. During their early years in Marblehead, she was active in the Marblehead Little League program, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and the Boston Yacht Club. The family moved to Gilford, NH in 1963 to pursue their shared love of skiing.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Glenn Alden Yale of Salem, MA and Scott Mattson Yale of Gilford, NH; three daughters-in-law, Cathy Connell, Dale Yale, and Kathleen Yale; grandchildren, Amy Dix, Ty Yale, Heather Tripp, Kirsten Austin, Khristion Yale, Shawn Yale, Brent Wilmot, Abram Wilmot, Shannon Yale; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and two sons, she was predeceased by a sister, Norma Mattson Smith, of Canterbury, NH
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 from 10:00-11:30AM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance.
A Graveside Service will follow calling hours at Noon, Wednesday at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, 1305 Meredith Center Road, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.
