Gilford-----Bruce Robert Massie, 55, of 37 Glendale Place, Gilford, husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many, passed on Saturday April 17, 2004 at his home in Gilford, NH.
Bruce was born January 21, 1949 in Providence, R.I. the son of the late William and Ethel (Trett) Massie. He graduated from Tolman High School in Pawtucket, R.I. and also from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, N.H.
Bruce was employed as a courier for FedEx for 13 years, retiring July 3, 2003 due to illness.
Bruce was known by friends everywhere as the man with a generous soul, friend to everyone…even if you had just met. A non judgmental man who accepted each human being for who they were and where they were…to Bruce, everyone he knew and those he just met, were important.
Bruce lived each day of his life with a good word for all mankind…he had no enemies. He loved everybody and greeted all with a smile, whether he was racing a sailboat, snowmobiling, motorcycling or skiing. The “smile of the great spirit”, the mountains of New Hampshire were the places he loved most. If you were in trouble, he was always there to provide whatever you needed…a roof over your head, a hot meal, advice…he was there if you needed a friend…his kindness blossomed every day in his words, his thoughts and most especially in his actions.
Everyone who knew Bruce well, will tell you there was nothing he would not try; his adventurous spirit knew no limits…he was the leader of the pack…founding Father of the famous GDK,…generous with his support, loving in his willingness to be your helper. His patience was only superceded by his loyalty to his family and friends.
Whether he sailed the waters of the Caribbean, or the mysterious winds of Lake Winnipesaukee, his course was always true…do the best you can, a steady hand on the helm and smile for all, love your fellow man…you know what he thinks…be true to those you love and live life everyday, for it may be all you have. The smile of Glendale has passed…we wish you, God speed good friend…we will miss you always.
Survivors include his wife Nancy (Wharton) Massie of Gilford; a daughter Nicole M. Chaves of Gilford; and a grandchild. Beside his parents he was predeceased by a brother William Robert Massie.
