John J. Martin

Laconia-----John J. Martin, 87, of 212 Mason Court, died at his home on Thursday, April 8, 2004.

          Mr. Martin was born December 4, 1916 in North Easton, MA, the son of John and Marie (Alves Da Silva) Martin.   He lived in Clearwater, Florida for several years before moving to Laconia, NH ten years ago.

          Mr. Martin was a Sgt. First Class in the U. S. Army and was the Chief Operating Technician for the Portable Surgical Unit.  He was recipient of a Presidential Citation. He retired in 1962 after serving twenty-four years.  He enjoyed painting and photography.

          Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Mary (Souza) Martin of Laconia; three brothers, Charles Martin of Arizona, David Martin of Wyoming and Anthony Martin of California; three sisters, Mary Guyette of California, Mercedes Monte and Eve McDougall both of Washington; and many nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Martin and Abel Martin.

          There will be no calling hours.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 11:00AM.  Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the Church, will be the celebrant.

          Burial will be on Friday, April 16, 2004 at 10:00AM at the N. H. State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
